The biggest danger from the volcano occurs when the pressure from the magma below builds up to a level that makes the dome unstable. When the pressure is too great, pieces of the dome crust can fall off and release a hot avalanche of lava boulders and ash called a pyroclastic flow.

These flows are devastating, erupting down the mountain-side and destroying everything in their path.
